Abstract
A pulsating turbulent flow in a 90-degree bend was investigated experimentally. The pressure and LDV measurements were carried out systematically for three cases of flow, where the mean and oscillatory Reynolds numbers were 20000 and 10000, respectively, and the Womersley numbers a were 10, 20 and 30. In particular, the effects of the Womersley number on the flow were examined. The phase-averaged axial velocity W shows large amplitude near the inner and outer wall in the first and latter half of the bend, respectively. The phase of the variation from the flow rate advances with an increase of α. For high α, W exhibits profiles with a large difference between the inner and outer parts at the middle of the bend, and it changes to a sharp profile near the bend exit.
