Abstract
Several handling technologies for droplets and micro objects by controlling surface tension have been reported. The purpose of this study is to develop a novel handling method for droplet using difference in surface tension of materials. For this purpose in this year, rubber sheets which can grasp and release water droplet by using wettability and deformation of rubber sheets have been developed. Rubber sheets of two types of materials having different wettability have been fabricated to confirm difference of droplet adhesion function. As a result, correlations between the wettability of the rubber sheet and the adhesion of droplet are clarified. In addition, for aiming the function of grasping and releasing droplet, composite pattern of these materials has been investigated experimentally. Then radially patterned rubber sheets realized simply grasp and release droplet of 20μl by using wettability and deformation of the rubber sheet. This rubber sheet indicates possibility to be applied to a handling method for droplet using wettability and deformation of the rubber sheet.
