CBN is the hardness material next to diamond and no chemical reactivity with iron so that CBN is beginning to attract attention as a new cutting tool. Since thermal conductivity of it is high and it excels in heat resistance, it is expected to cut difficult-to-cut materials like nickel machine heat-resistant alloy etc. However, there are still few examples of manufacturing saw wire using a CBN grain, and the cutting performance of that is not clarified. Therefore, CBN saw wire was developed in this research and estimated cutting performance for iron content material which diamond saw wire could not cut. In this study, two kinds of work materials were used. One is rolled steel SS400 for ordinary structure and another is alloy SCN435H for mechanical structure. The result showed that cutting length of two work materials was longer than that in the past cutting experiment using the Ti coated diamond grain. In observation of the wire after experiment use, the CBN grain still remained on the wire so much, and it has checked that the developed wire held the CBN grain firmly. However, metallic adhesion between brazing metal and tips which covered with CBN grains were confirmed. So sharpening is needed for a prolonged time of use.
