In order to mimic actual microenvironments of human body and investigate more accurate functions and metabolism of heterologous cells, we formed the 3D cell co-culture microstructures by using conventional 2D culture technique with a combination of micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) and origami folding technology. In this research, we successfully produced 3D cell laden microstructures using NIH/3T3 (fibroblast cells) and HepG2 cells. These microstructures will be available for investigating the different functions of many co-culture cells combinations in various situations, for example, the drug screening by using different cells combinations.
