A new manufacturing method for cooling channel in the injection molding mold, we proposed application to the Friction Stir Welding (FSW). In addition, an aluminum alloy was used as the mold material to improve the function as the heat exchanger of the mold. The moldability was examined by carrying out a comparative test with a new aluminum alloy mold and a general steel mold. As the new aluminum alloy mold, the cooling channel of unconventional shape was manufactured by FSW. ABS resin was used for testing material. The distribution of the mold surface temperature of the new aluminum alloy mold was smaller than general steel mold. The cooling rate from the injection completion to the mold release was larger value when using aluminum alloy mold. The warpage of the sidewall of the molding was approximately the same value in both molds. These results suggested that the proposed method was promising as a manufacturing method of the cooling channel in the mold.
