Knowledge provides fundamental support in our world, to our society that has achieved great progress through advances in science and technology. However, at the same time, due to the rapid explosion of knowledge, areas of expertise have become significantly fragmented, making it more difficult even for groups of professionals to alleviate or solve problems facing society. Rising to this challenge and recognizing the urgency and necessity to go beyond just turning out graduates with knowledge and a single set of skills, Osaka University has established the Cross-Boundary Innovation Program (CBI), a program that will cultivate individuals with the creative and strategic skills and competencies needed to deal with diverse values and fields. CBI graduates will be able to go beyond the traditional framework - they will possess the power to generate what is "only possible by crossing boundaries." The development of the above program is supported under the "Programs for Leading Graduate Schools (All-Round Models)" of the Japanese government's Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. Osaka University's challenge is now to implement the above graduate program through a combination of expertise in all areas, integration with generic skills, creation of a heterogeneous learning environment, and collaboration with leading professionals from the political and business worlds.
