Interfacial shear strength (IFSS) of carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic (CFRTP), which is composed of carbon fiber (CF) and thermoplastic polymer alloy of polypropylene (PP) and polyamide (PA), is investigated by fragmentation test. The IFSS between PP/PA polymer alloy and carbon fiber treated to be oxidized or reduced is influenced by PA content rate in PP/PA polymer alloy. We conclude that surface modification of CF with hydrophilic agent can increase IFSS of CF and polymer alloy with higher PA content due to hydrophilic interaction. On the other hand, we recognize that there is the optimum surface condition on CF in terms of IFSS according to the PA content of polymer alloy when the surface of CF is not oxidized so much.
