This paper describes overviews of the researches conducted by the author et al. on mechanical properties or fracture behaviors of various engineering materials from a fundamental standpoint. Research themes described in this paper is (1) Internal friction (damping property), (2) Fractality of fracture surfaces, (3) Rolling contact fatigue, (4) Fatigue crack propagation due to repeated mode II loading, (5) Crack propagation in glass plate or glass tube due to thermal stress or internal pressure, (6) Effect of surface texturing of substrate on cracking and delamination of coating, (7) Out-of-plane strength of CFRP laminated composite and (8) Creep-fatigue crack propagation of nickel-based superalloy.
