Since tunnel spaces are long and enclosed, there are threats that a large number of casualties are caused by thermal fume and smoke propagation in fires. Therefore, the low-speed ventilation control system has been adopted in Japan to control the longitudinal velocity in event of tunnel fire. In recent year, the number of tunnels with steep longitudinal inclination is increasing. The effects of the low-speed ventilation control system in tunnels with inclinations of -3%, 0%, and 3% have been investigated in the present paper. It was clarified that thermal fume in the cases with longitudinal inclinations made the evacuation environment worse. However, the number of sufferers surrounded by dense smoke can be reduced with appropriate ventilation velocity.
