Some thought on the fire accident at the Hachihon-matsu Tunnel

Abstract

On March 17^th, 2016 a fire accident happened at the Hachihon-matsu Tunnel in Hiroshima Prefecture. In this paper, the accident is described in detail as well as the facilities in the tunnel. In the latter half of the paper discussion leads to the safety standards for tunnel fires in Japan, which should be revised in the near future. Stress is put on the disaster psychology, which has to be taken into account in designing an escape scenario of the passengers in tunnel fires.
