In this paper, some comparisons of rough contact solutions between a statistical model and direct simulation were made. Computationally generated isotropic and normally distributed surface textures by using the non-causal two-dimensional auto-regressive model were used in order to avoid unexpected noise components. A direct simulation based on the boundary element analysis and classical Greenwood-Williamson (GW) model were compared in term of fraction of real contact area, Ar/Aa, (Ar: real area of contact, Aa: apparent contact area). Ar/Aa computed by the direct simulation was proportional to the apparent contact pressure, which is in qualitative agreement with the GW model. Some quantitative discrepancies were found especially when a surface contains complex structures.
