Abstract

The present study describes effects of application of bell-mouth geometry to improve tribological properties of journal bearing of the compressor for home appliance products such as refrigerator. The actual assembly, shaft and journal bearing made from cast iron (FC250) , consisting of a recipro-type compressor was used for the specimen. The bell mouth geometry was applied to both ends of the journal bearing using a roller bunishing. The resulted bell-mouth geometry of the end consisted from a slope of 2/1000 and a length of 4 mm. The triblogical propeties were evaluated with a developped apparatus at a constant rotational speed and incrementally increase of the applied load up to seizure occurrence in lubricated condition. Siginificant improve of an anti seizure propreties and the decrease of the friction resistance were found on the bell mouth bearing. Therefore, it is conculuded that the application of the the bell mouth geometry was effective means to decrease in the friction coefficient of journal bearing.
