Foil gas bearings consist of flat top foil and bump foil with waveform, and bump foil can support the dynamic load generated by vibration in high-speed rotation. Thus, the stiffness of foil is an important factor in improving foil gas bearing performance. Moreover, the effects of waveform in bump foil is also needed to know in bearing performance. In this study, elastic experiments are conducted under loading and unloading by changing number of wave in bump foil. From the test, number of wave is effective in vibration in high-speed rotation because stiffness coefficient rapidly increases near the maximum load point in case of maximum wave number. In addition, from the result of the elastic experiment in the test bearing, the friction between top foil and bump foil influences structural stiffness of foil. From the result of the load capacity and friction torque experiment in test bearing, displacement of foil bearing increases in rev up rotor because bump foil is deformed by dynamic pressure.
