Most of shop floors in factories, the production processes are operated by floor workers especially in SMEs. For competitiveness, such human centric production system has to change themselves to become more flexible and dynamic. By using IoT tools and technologies, huge amount of data is obtained with low cost. However, it is difficult to design an efficient manufacturing execution system which translate raw data to an appropriate information. This paper proposes a system architecture with a cloud and edge computing technologies. A prototype IoT devise is developed and it is applied to an SME for the experimental study. The result shows that edge computing can provide efficient management data by collecting raw data in the factory. The system can provide real-time information necessary for quick response in the manufacturing operations management.
