In recent years in the field of medical devices and equipment, research and development (R&D) has received considerable attention. Much research has been conducted on refined technological seeds; however, few attempts have been successful enough to commercialize a product. One reason is the specific nature of medical device development. Thus, it is necessary to enhance the development of human resources personnel who understand particular medical matters. Our university has been opening a one-year seminar based on a biomedical curriculum (BMC) for 47 years. We have received national funding from the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED) for schemes such as our “Project to build foundations to support and incentivize the development of medical devices made in Japan.” We have also received funding from Japan's Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science & Technology (MEXT) for our initiative called the “Educational Program to Cultivate Finishers' Ability for Approval and Commercialization of Innovative Medical Devices.” In addition, we offer a doctoral-level course for students from industrial companies in order to promote high-level research. We discuss these programs and future expectations in this presentation.
