Abstract

The longitudinal vortices flow out periodically near the intersection of the cross arrangement of the cylinder and the flat plate arranged orthogonally in the flow. We found that the longitudinal vortices are formed constantly behind the cylinder and the lift force acts on the cylinder when the cylinder moves parallel along the flat plate. Using this phenomenon, we developed vertical axis type wind turbine with the cylinder blades driven by longitudinal vortex. In this study, the basic characteristics of the vertical axis type circular cylinder blade wind turbine are clarified. By changing the form factors such as the distance between the cylinder blade and the ring and the ring width, the rotation characteristics of cylinder blade change. These characteristics change by rotating the ring. The rotation speed of the cylinder blade increases when the ring and cylinder blades rotate in the same direction, and the rotation speed decreases when they rotate in the reverse direction.
