Abstract

Since the mirror mount structures for space telescopes are required to keep the alignment of the mirrors without causing any undesired surface figure deformations, most of them are consisted of statically determinate structures. In order to improve the performance of the statically determinate mirror support structure, we are considering the following topics: 1) load spreading mechanism to improve the design flexibility to reduce the gravity deformations, 2) active support mechanism with least interferences to the statically determinate principle. Analytical design and experimental results of the mechanical elements for them are described.
