This study investigated the relationship between bending technique for floral materials in Ikebana and bending strength. Bending tests were conducted with six types of flower materials (Momiji, Doudantsutsuji, Nishikigi, Boke, Nanten, and Robai) that are used regularly in Ikebana practice from autumn to winter. In addition, it is said that the dynamic characteristics of the wood such as strength by drying is improved; so the moisture contents of five flower plants (Momij, Nanten, Yukiyanagi, Sanshu and Ume) were measured and their dynamic characteristics, depending on the moisture content differences were examined. It was revealed that the flower materials, that are difficult to bend, suddenly drops in load at the yield point in the load-deflection curves, and the flower materials were fractured.
In addition, except for a part, flower materials that are difficult to bend tend to have a high flexural modulus. Furthermore, from the relationship between moisture content and elastic modulus, the elastic modulus tended to increase as the moisture content of the flower material decreased.
