The present paper describes skiving for a face gear mating with an involute pinion with an offset. Such face gears could be an alternative to hypoid gears used in final gear units for automobiles. A cutter was designed for skiving in which a cutter axis has a tilt angle. Its cutting edge was determined from a tooth flank of a conjugate pinion in consideration of a reference point which gives the configurations of gear axes. A practical skiving test implies that the reference point should be appropriately set with deliberations on a finishing process.
