Small-hole EDM uses thin-diameter tool electrode for machining micro deep holes. It machines by the electro discharge between work and electrode. Small-hole EDM is widely used in micro hole processing because of small reaction force, high precision and possibility to process high hardness materials. The machining fluid is injected from tool electrode to remove machining wastes during machining in Small-hole EDM. However, it becomes insufficient to remove debris in high aspect rate machining and that causes abnormal discharge such as short circuit, secondary discharge on side of tool electrode. This abnormal discharge affects processing speed, machined hole diameter. Therefore, in this study, made grooved tool electrode for Small-hole EDM to prompt removing debris. The authors made several kinds of groove by using two ways on the surface of tool electrode. One is the drawing process and the other is the EDM. We evaluate groove shape by One-shot 3D measuring microscope. Finally, we made machining experiments by using grooved electrode and compare processing speed with general electrode.
