LaCoO3 (LCO) has emerged to be a promising candidate as cathode for solid oxide fuel cells and as oxygen separation membrane. However previous research reported that bulk body of LCO pulverizes within several weeks to months. On the other hand, such a phenomenon that ceramics having the strength of about 400MPa pulverizes is rare. Also, LCO expects to use as an intelligence material by controlling well. Therefore, in this research, clarify the mechanism of self-pulverization of ceramics. In the present study, conducted X-ray diffraction (XRD), observed crystal surface with scanning electron microscope (SEM) and analyzed composition with energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDX). The result of XRD and EDX showed pulverized ceramics has La2O3. From the SEM image and EDX, La2O3 was the starting point of destruction. The study concluded that La2O3 in the sample causes the self-pulverization.
