Abstract

In order to build a safe or secure road transportation society, it is important to carry out not only safety countermeasures for vehicles but also safety countermeasures according to the road environment. There are various types of vehicles such as passenger cars, trucks, buses. In the same way, there are many types of roads, such as narrow width living road class to high-standard wide width road class, on which many vehicles are running with multiple lanes. Therefore, the characteristics of accident type are different by road class. Because, there are differences in traffic environments, such as passing traffic volume or vehicle velocity, vehicle type, etc.. In order to reduce the occurrence of traffic accidents, it is important to construct suitable safety countermeasures or driving assistance by clarifying characteristics of accidents by road class. In this study, the author estimated safety countermeasures for living roads or desired driving support for drivers, from clarifying characteristics of accidents occurring on narrow width living road by using the traffic accident data stored at the Institute for Traffic Accident Research and Data Analysis (ITARDA).
