Abstract

In order to improve an appreciable degradation of lifetime in cyclic fatigue the methods adding pre-load before cycling loading were suggested. Test results showed that by the fatigue lifetime could be clearly increased by adding a pre-loading stress more than cyclic loading stress. It was supposed that the process zone formed ahead of crack tip by pre-loading suppressed the occurrence of micro-cracks and the process zone wake extended behind crack tip caused the increases of resistance on crack extension.
