Effect of the length of middle part on the wake of the multi stepped circular cylinder

Abstract

It has known that the wake structure of a cylinder with a diameter that changes suddenly at the center in the longitudinal direction of the cylinder. However, the characteristics of the flow behind a cylinder with multi steps have not been investigated in detail. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to clarify the characteristics of the flow field behind the cylinder with multi steps and the effect of the length of middle part. From measurement of flow field using the multi stepped cylinder model with a difference of 4 mm in diameter between each step, we obtained some feature that the character of the flow field behind the middle part disappeared for the middle part length less than 4 mm. As the middle part length was 8 mm or more, the characteristics of the wake of the middle part cylinder appeared to be buried in that of the lower part.
