Abstract

Due to the development of powder metallurgy technology in recent years the demand for powder metallurgy products is increasing. Sintered brass alloys are attracting attention because brass materials are inexpensive and have excellent mechanical properties among them. However, during the sintering process of brass, zinc as the main component evaporated. This phenomenon is called dezincification. When this phenomenon occurs, it causes pollution of the sintering furnace and a decrease in density of the specimen. In this research, how this dezincification phenomenon affects the mechanical properties of molded bodies. For the test, a pressure ring strength test and a friction test was conducted. Both strength and friction characteristics showed better results with less zinc dust. We also studied the method of suppressing the dezincification phenomenon. We examined the tendency of dezincification by changing the sintering atmosphere and sintering conditions. As a result, it was possible to control the amount of dezincing most by sintering in a nitrogen atmosphere. The influence of dezincification on friction characteristics was investigated, but as a result it did not have much influence.
