It is appreciated that the objects built by 3D printer have anisotropy because of the printer layering materials. When gears are made by 3D printer, it is expected that strength of gear teeth become uneven, and it spoil gear performances.
In this study, the authors have made three kinds of test gears. These gears have different layering directions: Horizontal (0deg), Diagonal (45deg), and Normal (90deg). Then, driving test of these test gears had been carried out to compare these test gears in durability. Moreover, the fracture surface had been observed after driving test to find the relationship between tooth durability and layering directions. In conclusion, to maximize durability, layering direction should be set at horizontal.
