A conventional disk turbine impeller with 6 flat blades was modified for the number of the blade. An impeller with the increased number of blades, i.e., 12-bladed turbine type impeller, was employed to produce a nearly uniform and radial liquid flow in a narrower flow path between the neighboring blades of the rotating impeller. The internal flows of such impellers in a baffled vessel were examined and their power characteristics were evaluated, in comparison with those of the 6-bladed turbine type impellers. The respective impellers were used in the two configurations for the blades to be open and closed. In the open and closed configurations, increase of the number of blades caused mainly the improvement of flow and that of head, respectively, because of the flow patterns reformed in the uniformity and directionality. The resultant power transmissions were increased with increased viscous losses, leading to the efficiencies independent of the number of blades.
