Abstract

Recently, an ultra-compact electric vehicles (EVs) of one-or two-seater, which have become popular for short-distance travel, have been researched and actively developed. However, one of the problems for the ultra-compact EV, it does not generate an engine sound, an interior noise caused by road and wind noise have a large impact on user comfort in the interior space. Especially, the noise reduction of low frequency noise like a load noise is difficult by passive noise reduction technique using noise reduction material. Therefore, the use of interior noise reduction by active noise control (ANC) has been widely performed in the automobile industry. We proposed ANC system whereby a kind of small actuator is installed on the roof of an ultra-compact EV. In this paper, we considered the use of a giant magnetostrictive actuator ANC system which is installed on the loaf top of an ultra-compact EV and performed experimental study on ANC system of feedback control by LMS algorithm for low frequency noise range. We investigated random sound waves in the road noise frequency range between 100 Hz and 500 Hz as the source of noise from the speaker to the vehicle.
