Abstract

In this paper shows time series frequency characteristics of flow passing through the wire mesh on the downstream of a circular cylinder have been investigated by wavelet analysis. The Reynolds number with respect to the circular cylinder diameter was fixed at 5000. The cylinder diameter D is 6mm. The measurement point is 14D behind the cylinder and 1.25D laterally from the center of the cylinder. The wire mesh used in the experiment has a wire diameter of 0.23 mm to 1.0 mm and the open area ratio is 49.6 % to 76.4 %. The wire diameter in Reynolds number with respect to the wire diameter of the wire mesh is 180 to 800. As a result, if the mesh wire diameter decreases, the intensity of the Karman vortex frequency attenuate. The wire diameter of the wire mesh has more influence on the damping of the Karman vortex than the open area ratio. There is a possibility that the wire diameter has a critical value of the damping of vortexes turbulence.
