Abstract

An underexpanded microjet issued from a rectangular convergent nozzle with a cross-section of 1mm×1mm at the nozzle exit is simulated by solving the Reynolds-average Navier-Stokes wquations with the SSTk-ω turbulence model. Simulations are performed at a nozzle pressure ratio of 4.0 to produce an underexpanded free jet including shock-systems. As a result, the density profile along the jet centerline obtained from the simulation is compared with the experimental one by the Mach-Zehnder interferometer.
