The purpose of this study is to print an antenna for smart gear system on a metal plate, and to evaluate the characteristics of the antenna to clarify the precautions when printing on metal gears. First, a metal plate was brought close to the open spiral antenna having a resonance frequency at 0.3GHz printed on a POM plate. Then, the change appearing in the return loss characteristic of the antenna was observed to understand the change of the natural frequency caused by the antenna printing on a metal plate. As a result of the observation, it was confirmed that the natural frequency of the antenna increased as the distance to the metal plate decreased. Next, the conditions for printing the conductive ink on the metal plate with a polyimide layer were clarified, and the same antenna was printed on a metal plate using these printing conditions. Then, the antenna characteristics were measured and analyzed. As a result of printing the antenna on the metal plate, it was confirmed that the natural frequency was 10 % higher than that of the antenna printed on the POM plate.
