Experimental study on mixing and diffusion of coaxial jet

Abstract

Mixing and diffusion of a jet with ambient fluid that is related to improvement of the combustion efficiency and promotion of various chemical reactions is very important. In this study, we focus on the coaxial round jet that is a fundamental flow of air in the burner and the jet engine wake. The coaxial round jet is composed of inner round jet and outer annular jet. When disturbance was applied to the mixing and diffusion of the coaxial round jet, the flow characteristics is changed. In order to clarify fundamental characteristics of diffusion field in the coaxial round jet, velocity of coaxial round jet are measured by PIV (Partical Image Velocimetry) and instantaneous concentrations of coaxial round jet are measured by the light absorption method. These experiments were carried out at Reynolds number of about 9 000. The frequency of disturbance was 130 Hz where large changes were obserbed.
