Abstract

In the development of ski and snowboard equipment, it is important to reduce resistance forces such as frictional forces between the sliding surface and snow. Previous studies have shown that the coefficient of static friction between a glass plate and snow tended to be almost proportional to the real contact area measured under the same conditions. To clarify the relationship, it is necessary to measure them at the same time. As a first step of this study a measuring system to evaluate the normal load and the real contact area simultaneously has been developed newly.
