Due to recent global trends such as Sustainable Development Goals, "Well-being (WB)" has become one of the keywords that is attracting attention. Also, there is a growing movement to improve WB of working people among companies. In the present study, WB of people working at mountain tunnel construction sites in Japan was investigated. The results showed that WB regarding safety and security was high, but it became clear that workers in a major construction working at the same site and tunnel miners of sub construction had different WB in terms of job satisfaction, life goals, and interpersonal relationships. Although both workers and miners may be controlled by the employer on the job site, their values of working, satisfaction and/or emotional state on the construction site may differ between construction staff and tunnel miner. In the future, we plan to establish a more sensitive scale that considers the work styles and backgrounds of workers, and conduct similar verification for other occupations to confirm whether there are different WB depending on the occupation. From the perspective of occupational safety, we believe that it is necessary to take measures that not only reduce negative risks such as industrial accidents, but also aim to create workplaces where people can be happy and achieve self-fulfillment.
