In this research, we discuss the peculiar vibration behavior of a ground helical gear pair that appears at non-integer order of the meshing frequency. It is supposed that the vibration is generated because of the irregularity of tooth surface form whose cycles are different from tooth mesh cycle. We measured tooth surface from of all teeth of test gears with the coordinate measuring machine. And we processed the surface form in rotational order of a gear by spectral analysis. As a result, tooth surface irregularity that causes the peculiar vibration can be detected. Furthermore, we present the least measurement conditions that enable the detection of noninteger order of mesh vibration. It is useful for the quality check in manufacturing process.
