Lubrication Properties of Metal Contained Diamond Like Carbon Films

Abstract

To improve the lubrication properties of DLC coated sliding parts, various metals such as molybdenum (Mo), tungsten (W), iron (Fe) and titanium (Ti) are contained to DLC films. DLC coating without metal show little effect on lubrication properties with EP (Extreme-Pressure) additives, however the friction coefficient of metal containing DLC films decrease gradually with sliding cycles due to EP additives.
