A YAG Laser cladding technology is a permanent repairing and preventive maintenance method for heat exchanger's flange seat surface made of carbon steel, which is degraded by the corrosion. The material of welding wire was selected type 316 stainless steel so as to have high corrosion resistance. Recently we performed the mock up test with the same sized flange as an actual plant (1.8m diameter). After cladding, a lot of tests, such as a PT (Penetration Testing), a side bending test, a hardness test of HAZ (Heat Affected Zone), and a chemical composition analysis, etc. were done and evaluated the soundness of cladding layers. And also a deformation rate, which was a serious problem for repairing and/or preventive maintenance work of operating plant equipment, was measured and confirmed that it was a little. Through this mock up test we confirmed this technology can be applied to the actual plants. This technology had already got the welding certification by MITI.
