Abstract
Experimental studies are conducted to clarify the flow structure and velocity distribution of the abrasive water injection jet (AWIJ). The water velocity is obtained by the PIV method. It is shown that the water velocity decreases steeply with the slight addition of the abrasive. When the abrasive flow rate is relatively large, the water velocity is 0.2 to 0.4 times of the theoretical velocity calculated by Bernoulli's equation.
