Abstract
Cavitating submerged water jets have recently attracted attention as an efficient way of oxidation of harmful organic compounds. In this study, we carried out systematic experiments using a small cavitating jet apparatus for investigating the oxidation effect of a cavitating jet and influences of various conditions. The oxidation efficiency was measured for four different compounds, 1,4-dichlorobenzene, biphenyl, dibenzofuran and dibenzo-p-dioxin, and products of the reaction were identified using a gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer. The influence of OH-radical was also investigated by adding t-butyl alcohol as scavenger.
