The authors have applied a concurrent engineering approach to develop a special jig to support a bone-shaped object for 3D scanning procedures. Design and development of the jig has been evaluated under a virtual environment, meanwhile the jig was developed in a concurrent manner. During the development process of the jig, its digital model was used for communication among participants. The paper describes how the concurrent engineering approach which we have taken has worked well in the process. The paper also discusses the feasibility of the collaborative design and production using digital communication.
