Abstract
Free edge stress singularities prevail near an intersection of an interface and a free-surface when different materials are bonded. Therefore the fracture of the bonded dissimilar materials may occur near the intersection of the interface and the free-surface. The stress intensity factor of a crack near the interface is affected by the free edge stress singularities. In this study, we investigated stress intensity factor of crack near the interface of bonded dissimilar materials with changing the distance between the interface and the crack by using the boundary element method. It is found that the stress intensity factor of the crack near the interface in the bonded dissimilar materials can be evaluated by using parameters of singular stress field of the bonded dissimilar materials without the crack.
