Abstract

Visual information via display system and/or audio information via speaker system are commonly used as information presentation. On the other hand, vibration method for timely notice such as silent mode of cellar phone provides a very useful interface to convey information without audio or video device. However, vibration function only provide notice and is not suitable to provide further information, for example, direction guidance. This study proposes a vibration-based interface to manipulate objects, which provides haptic feeling of manipulation. This paper describes the basic idea and structure of the interface system, presents an example of application in a virtual environment, and also discusses its feasibility.
