Abstract
The design procedure of the traction roller increaser using wedge action is examined. The features of the increaser are that an input axis and an output axis are eccentric and to generate a contact force in proportion to a transmitted torque. The traction coefficient and the contact force at each contact point are changed according to the roller placement. The optimum arrangement to prevent a gross slippage at the contact point with the maximum traction coefficient is obtained by the static analysis of force balance. The rollers move during transmitting a torque by the contact force generated by the wedge action. Displacements of sun roller and wedge roller are obtained by FEM. When the input torque is 10Nm, the displacement of sun roller is in the range between 11 to 16 μm and that of wedge roller is about 0.28 mm. The increase rate of displacement of wedge roller becomes small with the increase in input torque.
