Abstract
In this study, effects of surface temperature on the pitting fatigue life with two-disc machine were investigated. The pitting fatigue life can be described from the degree of separation, so (1) The extent of metallic contact of two disc surfaces (2) traction curves, (3) surface temperature were measured with some lubricants containing of viscosity index improver(VII). These results should be estimated comprehensively. The results were summarized as follows. (1) The VII additives can improve the degree of separation compared with its base oil, but not with the same viscosity paraffin oil. (2) The VII containing oils increase the surface temperature compared with the base oil or the same viscosity paraffin oil.
