This paper describes a new magnetic field assisted machining process using magnetic machining jig to finish the internal surface of thick tubing (10〜30mm in the thickness). Because the magnetic machiningjig is consists of permanent magnets, it can generate higher magnetic force than conventional magnetic abrasives, and makes the internal finishing of thick non-ferromagnetic tubing possible. Moreover, in order to obtain a high-quality surface, this process method was developed using magnetic particles abstracted on magnet surface of the machining jig and offering the abrasive slurry. First, this paper characterizes the processing principle of this process. Next, the certificated experiment was carried out. It was clarified that not only the surface roughness, but also the roundness of inside tubing can be improved. The feasibility of this processing method for the internal precision machining of thick non-ferromagnetic tubing (10mm in the thickness) is confirmed.
