With the maturation of consumer demands, Kansei design has been becoming an important issue for product designs in addition to function and structural performances. In this work, we studied the structural optimization involving the Kansei performances for a bicycle frame as example. The stress and the rigidity calculated by FEM are used as the evaluation functions for the structural performances. The Kansei performances such as elegance and uniqueness are evaluated by the Semantic Differentials (SD). By using the response surface method, the optimal design variables consisted of the sizes of the cross sections and the bend of the main tube are determined. The calculated optimal design and the Pareto optimal design are demonstrated for the combination of the structural and Kansei performances.
