Some foil sections for the Darrieus-type wind turbine were tried numerically by 3-D LES (Large Eddy Simulation) analysis. The aim of this study is improvement of starting torque coefficient with keeping maximum power coefficient. The basic foil sections are NACA00 series. The main parameter of modifications is maximum thickness position. Another important parameter is foil setting position (contact point of chord to pitch circle). The equations are discretized by Finite volume method for space and Fractional step method for time. As a result of analysis, The best foil section was the modified 0012 foil. Its maximum thickness position was 16%, and best setting position was 65%. The 3 blades new foil turbine is better than 4 blades popular foil turbine on both of power coefficient and starting torque.
