Abstract
Two methods for moulding aluminium foams from liquid state by using a foaming agent are examined. To mix molten aluminium and a foaming agent uniformly, compacted aluminium powder including TiH_2 was made and used as a foaming agent. The density of the aluminium foam made by using the Al-TiH_2 compact with stirring during foaming became 0.31, which was lower than that of the aluminium foam made by using TiH_2 powder directly. In the moulding of aluminum foam, molten aluminium was poured into the pipe mould including the Al-TiH_2 compact and became foam of relative density more than 0.4. The moulding by inserting the pipe into the foaming aluminium in the crucible produced aluminium foam of low relative density around 0.3, and the distribution of the relative density was in a range of 0.2-0.4.
