Abstract
The Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) engine has attracted much interest in recent years because it can simultaneously achieve high efficiency and low emissions. However, the HCCI combustion process has the problem that it is difficult to control the ignition timing and combustion proceeds too rapidly. In this study, spectroscopic measurements were used to examine the combustion characteristics of the HCCI combustion fuelled with DME and methane. The experimental results revealed that, the quantity of DME supplied significantly influenced the cool flame.
