Abstract

Electric carts are well knows as the motion-support machines for the aged and handicapped people. The operation of electric cart is easy, and the stability and rigidity are higher than them of wheel chair. However, due to secure high rigidity, the size of body of electric cart should be lager than wheelchair, and lager space is needed for turning motion. This disadvantage is caused by the driving mechanism of electric cart which has two rear driving wheels connected by a differential gears. In order to improve the turning performance with reducing the turning diameter, we proposed new type of steering system with braking force control. This system is also efficient to secure the safety during cart's turning.
